In this second episode of The Mosaic Chat, we examine the emergence of biblical monotheism and the formation of Judaism through covenant. It was a turning point that would reshape not only religion, but history itself.
With Abraham’s departure from Ur, divinity is no longer diffused across nature or embodied in idols. God becomes one, invisible, moral, and sovereign, entering into a covenant with a people and introducing a new understanding of time that is no longer cyclical but oriented toward promise, responsibility, and fulfillment. Through the Exodus and the revelation at Sinai, this relationship becomes collective, binding freedom to law and identity to ethical accountability.
Judaism thus establishes the foundational grammar of the Abrahamic world. Christianity and Islam will later emerge within this horizon, inheriting and reinterpreting the same claim: that there is one Creator who speaks into history and calls humanity to justice.
This moment is not only theological but civilizational. The possibility of an Abrahamic Alliance in the Middle East and North Africa rests on this shared origin: a common narrative of covenant, dignity, and moral responsibility.
To imagine a shared future, we must first understand where the story truly begins.
